ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to young musicians of any nationality between the ages of 16-36

d) Residents outside the Toronto area may provide a tape containing three contrasting pieces that best represent the abilities of the applicant

DIVISIONS

Three (3) winners will be announced in each of four (4) divisions: voice, piano, strings, and woodwinds.

 

REPERTOIRE

Competitors in each division must perform three pieces in contrasting styles.

One piece must be selected from three of the following eras: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. Vocalists are recommended to represent three different genres in their selections including (but not limited to) opera, oratorio, and lieder.

 

The semi- finals and finals will be held in Toronto , Ontario from Nov.3-10, 2006.  The jury consists of eminent musicians from the musical world representing many different countries.  The winners of the competition, and selected finalists, will participate in a public concert on the last date of the competition at the CBC  Center

 

PRIZES

First prize winners of each division will be awarded a grant of $$8,000*

Second prize winners of each division will be awarded a grant of $5,000*

Third prize winners of each division will be awarded a grant of $3,000*

All finalists will receive a grant of $500*

 

* All grants must be used at the Toronto School of Music Canada
